You cannot escape talk of the election anywhere these days, but nobody seems to ask the question that all hairdressers want answered – how much do MPs pay for their haircuts?

It has emerged that David Cameron pays £90 to have his hair styled and cut, which may seem extortionate in these days of apparent austerity. Lino Carbosiero is the Prime Minister’s stylist and also lists Kylie Minogue, Dustin Hoffman and Sir Paul McCartney amongst his clients. Perhaps he should keep quiet about that last one.

Other MPs, however, have been queuing up to declare their belief in ‘getting more for less’. Deputy PM Nick Clegg, for instance, pays £20 for a haircut in Sheffield while Leader of the House of Commons, Andrew Lansley, claims to have paid just £15, joking that this “just goes to show that you can come to the Conservatives for value for money”.

Meanwhile, Labour’s shadow work and pensions minister, Chris Bryant, has told his Twitter followers that he pays even less. The MP for Rhondda says he pays just £13 for a haircut.
