1. Shampoo. The right shampoo is crucial for maintaining your hair colour. Avoid any shampoo containing sulphates as they can cause coloured hair to swell, promote colour leaching and even break down your hair’s natural protein. 2 in 1 shampoos containing silicones should also be avoided as they can leave a film deposit or oxidize blonde hair, turning it yellow.

2. Water temperature. If you wash your hair in water that is too hot you run the risk of the hair cuticles swelling and allowing the colour to leach out. Always wash your hair in lukewarm water.

3. Styling products. Styling products containing polymers, resins or silicones may discolour or darken your hair or dull down the vibrancy of the colour. As a simple test, wipe a sample of your styling product on a mirror and allow it to dry. If it leaves a waxy film then beware – that is what will be deposited on your hair.

4. Styling with heat. If you blow dry your hair or use a flat iron you risk speeding up the colour fading process. Use these products for as little time as possible.
